I have been a fan favorite since the first day she starred on MTV’s The Challenge: Fresh Meat. She was cute, fierce, and sassy, and it was so entertaining to watch a local girl right here from Roswell, GA compete on a show that I loved. So many others shared my sentiment that she went on to compete in seven seasons of the MTV hit reality series. Diem Brown, the beautiful, athletic and resilient competitor gave us all an intense glimpse into a beautiful girl’s battle with Ovarian Cancer. She set out to do everything she could to leave a legacy behind and leave this world a better place and she certainly did just that.
There is no doubt that this endearing and captivating MTV starlet was brought to this earth to inspire, motivate and create a movement. Although it took her life way to soon and her fate was in the hands of this wretched disease, she never gave up the fight.
She took the “challenge” and branded herself to make sure she fulfilled all of her dreams with grace and stature. There is so much to be said about all that she did during the short time she was given on this earth. I admire her strength, character, determination and all that she stood for. She fought a hard battle, but left a legacy of impact advocating and creating something that will live in her honor forever.
MedGift, her health advocacy charity is a registry, similar to wedding and baby registries, that allow donors to give in order to help patients and their families pay for treatments, and to help support them emotionally and physically.
During her seven appearances on The Challenge, she conquered so much. She captured the hearts of millions, fell in crazy love, announced her diagnosis of ovarian cancer, beat cancer twice, relapsed a third time, went through chemotherapy, froze her eggs, founded MedGift, danced on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, blogged for People.com, and was an entertainment reporter capturing touching stories. Whew…that resume (just typing it wears me out)! And, most importantly, was a WARRIOR.
Her sometimes diabolical, yet at most times gentle, caring and endearing, on again off again boyfriend from the show, C.T.Tamburello posted to Instagram, “You have always been My Angel. And now you have your wings. We’ve been thru so much over the years. Thru the ups and downs we somehow managed to keep our promise. We never gave up on each other,” with a picture of her, rosary beads, and a ring.
“Our plan to be together forever hasn’t changed…it’s just going to take a little longer now. And I’m going to hold onto this ring for you till we are together again. So don’t worry mama, I’m not afraid. I know you will always be with me to give me your strength. you are The Love of My Life. My reason to be a better man. I Love You Always and Forever.”
This raises the question as to “WHY?” Why, does someone so cute, fun, talented, lovely, and sweet be given such a hard battle? Unfortunately, we will never know until we meet with our Creator. It’s a question we all at one time will ask ourselves when we are faced with adversities. I know her parents, family and friends must be so incredibly proud of her for the way she handled herself through her trial – NEVER giving up and continuing to give to others amidst difficult times. God needs more soldiers like Diem on earth and I know she is an angel shining her beautiful light over each of us from Heaven above.
If you love Diem’s heart, energy, spirit, and perseverance, tune into MTV on December 9th. The network is giving tribute to her and her journey over the years – here’s to hoping C.T. is interviewed, so that we may share the love that they had off screen that we as viewers never got to intimately see. Consider giving to help other cancer patients who are struggling during their fight to help pay for medical bills at MedGift.
Thank you precious Diem for making us laugh, cry, desire, and dream – we know you are sitting at the right hand of God interceding for us.
