A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a lunch box staple, and still to this day, I love to enjoy a PB&J! Have you tried a grilled peanut butter jelly sandwich yet? If you haven’t, RUN to the kitchen and do it NOW! Man, is it delicious. The inside is extra gooey and the outside warm, salty and crispy. All you have to do is put your peanut butter and jelly on (don’t be shy…load it up so it will seep out the sides!) butter your pan and place it in the skillet. Give it a good few minutes and when it’s ready to flip, pick it up with your spatula add some more butter for the other slice of bread and throw it on! You AND your kiddos will thank you!!!Of course, you can make a PB&J the standard way, and trim the edges of the crusts off. Ever since Smucker’s Uncrustables came out on the market, I have loved the idea of having a sandwich that I can grab and throw into Knox’s lunch box, when I am rushing in the mornings. Unfortunately, I have yet to conquer making lunch the night before. #momgoals
Although, Uncrustables are super convenient and a good option for most, I wanted to have a healthier version as well as more cost effective. So, I started making my own Uncrustables! Just grab a glass or a mug to cut a circle or even use a cookie cutter for fun shapes! It’s so easy and the best part is you can make a large batch, put them in Ziploc freezer bags and voila!!!We love to use Ezekiel bread or Nature’s Own 100% Whole Wheat for our bread. Trader Joe’s has great organic jelly and I love Smucker’s Natural that is Non GMO, which you can easily pick up at your local grocer.
We use Ezekiel bread found in the freezer section at your grocery store, Dave’s Killer Bread or Nature’s Own 100% Whole Wheat if you don’t mind if it isn’t Organic or Non GMO verified. We also use Almond Butter opposed to Peanut Butter. If we do buy peanut butter, I make sure it is Organic/Natural and free of GMO’s. We believe in moderation in this household and realize that not everything that goes into our bodies is not going to be perfect or good for us. We like donuts and Dorito’s too much. 🙂
It is a constant struggle, but one that we are conscious about. Hopefully, it equals out in the long run! We also have several family members and friends that have severe peanut allergies, so we also love using Sunflower Butter, so that they may enjoy a classic PB&J, too, without any risk!
Hopefully, Smucker’s will create a Non GMO version of their Uncrustables and having to make them homemade will be a thing of the past! Until they do, I also love using Annie’s Homegrown brand for convenience when I can’t make my own. What’s your favorite way to make a PB&J?
