I just love being in the kitchen, especially during this special season, baking goodies for friends and my family. Traditional Rice Krispies® Treats were a staple in my home growing up and the nostalgia of the taste and smell takes me back to my childhood and floods my heart, mind and soul with precious memories. I love that with just three ingredients and a few easy steps, you can create a treat that’s loved by everyone! I’ve never met anyone that didn’t love a Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® Treat!
The fun part about these simple and easy marshmallow squares is that there is so much you can do with them! Of course, a plain ol’ traditional Rice Krispies® Treat is pure perfection in and of itself, but you can also step your treat game up with a few simple and easy steps that will take your holiday treat making to a whole new level! From these Rice Krispies® treats shaped like candy corns that I did back in October for the fall, to these adorable ornament balls, there are so many creative ways to make gifts for neighbors and friends that won’t break the bank. So, that’s what Knox and I did together! We set out to create a gift for his sweet teacher, Mrs. Hurley, and make gifts for neighbors. I wanted his teacher gift to be Knox’s masterpieces, so that she would know that he made them with his hands, his heart and his love. And the best part about Rice Krispies® Treats is that you can make them in your crockpot!!!
Yeah, did you know that Rice Krispies® in the crockpot is a thing?!?! I mean a HUGE thing!!! And, it makes the process SOOOOOOO easy! The crockpot is the perfect kitchen tool to let the butter and marshmallows melt slowly, allowing you to go check some of those items off your holiday to-do list, while it does the work for you. There’s no stirring involved until you ad the Rice Krispies®! And if you use your crockpot casserole dish, you don’t even have to transfer it to a baking dish, because it’s already in one!
To make the Rice Krispies® Treats, place pats of butter on the bottom of your crockpot and add the marshmallows on top, then once they are bubbly and the edges beginning to slightly brown (about an hour on high and two on low), mix in the Rice Krispies® and stir GENTLY. Oh, sooooo gently!
Once you have stirred gently and they are well combined, let them cool for about 5 minutes and then you can manipulate them into adorable ornament balls or use cookie cutters to cut out fun shapes! I found this huge snowflake and thought it would be so fun to make a huge Rice Krispies® Cake Treat with it! I mean, how cute is this decorated snowflake?!?!
I adore that Knox loves being in the kitchen with me. It’s such a special time for us to connect over food with a simple activity. In the beginning, I used to get so frantic if he broke an egg on the counter, got an eggshell in the cake mix or didn’t put the ingredients in the “right” way. Now, I can honestly say that I let him do what makes his heart happy (except for his dirty feet on the counters!).
Making messes in the kitchen in our house has become a such a fun activity that makes my heart so joyful! And nothing makes us both as happy as making Rice Krispies® Treats together! Use cookie cutters to make shapes and then decorate with icing and all the fun toppings! These were some of our final “masterpieces” that we are gifting to his teacher and other friends.
Knox even taste tested them to make sure they were worthy of gifting and he thinks my recipe that I’ve been tweaking to perfection is finally perfected! I think so, too! Get the full printable recipe card at the end of the post! The secret to the perfect Rice Krispies® Treats is to not press down too hard and that the marshmallow/butter/Rice Krispies® ration is spot on. We’ve all had those that scrape the roof of our mouths and this is NOT that recipe! Follow these directions and you will have that pleasureful taste loaded with marshmallow goodness that we all love so much!
You can pick up your Family Size Rice Krispies® box at your local Walmart to ensure you have enough cereal to make plenty of treats for gifts and of course, to enjoy yourself!!! Rice Krispies® is helping to spread holiday joy to children in need and all you have to do is whip up your own Rice Krispies® Treats with the kids, post a picture on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #Treats4Toys and they will make a donation to Toys for Tots! All the more reason to get to baking your own Rice Krispies® Treats!!! Read more about it here! What are your favorite ways to make Rice Krispies® for the holidays?! I have so many more ideas and can’t wait to continue my Rice Krispies® Treat obsession!
