I have a weakness for biscuits and sausage gravy. I would order it every time I went to breakfast if my waistline could manage it! This simple southern pleasure, reminds me of going to Huddle House in college and enjoying one of my favorite southern dishes late nights (or better yet early mornings!) LOL. Just sitting here thinking about the light fluffy biscuits soaked in creamy buttermilk gravy, makes me want it R I G H T now, especially with this dip in the temp here in Atlanta.
Our family was getting together for brunch, and I wanted to make something that paired well with bacon, pancakes and fruit that my parents had on their menu. I have been wanting to create one of my favorite southern staples, so I headed to Pinterest and found a few recipes that were all very different.
My dad has found the easiest way to make THE BEST gravy using Pioneer Brand peppered gravy mix, so I took a few ideas and made this Crockpot Biscuits and Gravy Casserole. If your family doesn’t like a little bit of spice, then I suggest you use the Pioneer Original. This gravy is close enough to being made with gravy drippings, milk and flour, but is such a shortcut to having to make the roux in a skillet like my grandmother used to! All you have to do is open up the package and mix with water!!!
This recipe is one for the book’s y’all! In full disclosure, Fred doesn’t like “wet” bread, so biscuits and gravy have never been his thing, so he passed on this one. Since the biscuits were on the bottom, I was kind of worried that the end result would be reallllllly wet bread, even for this girl, who loves a biscuit soaked up in gravy! That would have even grossed me out!
The end result is perfectly cooked, fluffy, buttery biscuits that could sop up gravy on a plate like us true southern’s like to do. And that’s what we did with them…except for Fred. I guess he’s not as southern as his accent is!!!!
Did I mention I looooooove biscuits and gravy, y’all?!?!
I hope you love this one as much as we did! It is the perfect breakfast, brunch or even breakfast “dinner” dish that is easy southern comfort food at it’s best. And you don’t even have to go to Huddle House or IHOP to get it! Let’s all be reminded of the sacrifices He made, and the persecution He took on, so that we could live forever next to Him, and in the meantime, while we are here together, let’s all love like Jesus loves…
“and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you, and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.” Ephesians 5:2
Enjoy!
